It’s the most wonderful time of the year… to get started on your resolutions for the new year!
While many people use the start of a new year to lose weight and exercise more, our team at Journey Home Lending wants you to consider also making resolutions this year for your home, too.
Resolving for a Happier, Healthier House
Your home is where the heart is, so why not give it some TLC? If you plan to move in the new year, you want your home to be exciting for potential buyers—and you want to get your new house feeling more like a home as soon as possible.
Here are some things to consider:
First, is your home costing you more than it needs to in energy? Cut down on energy costs by sealing windows, as well as sealing and insulating your home’s ductwork.
Not only will this help to cut down on energy costs, it can also help extend the life of your HVAC system.
Second, consider using low-maintenance materials when you can. For instance, use fiber-cement siding on your home that is also waterproof. In addition, using LED lightbulbs are more durable.
When decorating your home, you might want to consider using seasonal, artificial plants. Especially if you don’t have time every week to care for plants, artificial ones can still bring warmth to your home while being low maintenance.
Finally, there is no better time than the new year to get organized. While cleaning up the décor from the holidays, use the time to also declutter.
A cluttered home is chaos, and that chaos can then lead to stress. The last thing you need is for your home to be stressful when it’s supposed to be your sanctuary.
Go through each room and see what can stay, be donated or be disposed of. While this task might be time-consuming, it is worth it in the end.
