Quick & Easy Ways to Boost Your Home's Curb Appeal

Quick & Easy Ways to Boost Your Home's Curb Appeal

First impressions matter. That’s true when it comes to our interactions with people—and it’s also true when it comes to our interactions with houses.

If you’re looking to sell your house, you’re probably thinking through ways that you can enhance the house to drive up the purchase price. That’s a good idea any time you’re putting a property up for sale, even in a seller’s market like the current one.

However, because time (and money) are precious, ideally those improvements would be easy and relatively inexpensive to implement.

Well, today’s your lucky day, because the Journey Home Lending team wants to share a few suggestions that offer good bang for the buck and a whole lot of curb appeal.

Boost Your Home’s Curb Appeal with These Tips

Giving potential buyers a better first impression of your house doesn’t require a lot of money or a lot of time. There are many improvements you can make on a weekend with some basic supplies.

Start here:

  • Change out hardware. You may not think of it often, but there’s a lot of hardware on the outside of your house and your property. Think about it: You’ve probably got a house number attached to the front of the house, a mailbox out front, and a light fixture above the front door. Are they all up-to-date, clean and fresh? If not, take the time to change them out. Modernized pieces can draw attention without costing much.
  • Paint the front door. All eyes are on the front door. Give yours some attention! At the least, clean it thoroughly and give it a good polish. If you want to invest a bit more, change out the color on the door. That doesn’t require a ton of paint, but it can make a significant visual impact.
  • Clean it up. Is your driveway discolored? Are your sidewalks dirty and stained? That’s probably nothing a power wash won’t fix! Make the path less of an eyesore by giving it a thorough cleaning, taking it back to a more appealing color.
  • Change out the mulch. This tip isn’t mulch ado about nothing! Fresh, new mulch in an attractive shade is much more appealing to the eye—and it stops the spread of weeds. Choose materials that are native to the area and consider ideas such as wood chips or crushed shells.
